Floating Market: Where Culture Meets Sustainability on Water
Premise: The “Floating Market” competition invites participants to envision an innovative floating market space that adapts to challenges posed by rising sea levels and urban densification. The goal is to design a modular, sustainable, and culturally rich marketplace that thrives on water, offering a vibrant and flexible hub for commerce and community.
Objective: Participants must create a design that integrates functionality with ecological and social considerations, celebrating local traditions while presenting a forward-thinking architectural solution to climate change and spatial constraints.
Site: The site can be a waterbody of your choice, either urban or rural. It should reflect the real-world challenges of water-based construction and highlight the interplay of architecture with environmental and cultural contexts. Participants are encouraged to specify their chosen site and justify its relevance to the project.
Constraints: Modular and scalable solutions must be a part of the design. Incorporate sustainable materials and construction methods. Address climate resilience, especially rising sea levels. Designs must prioritize cultural integration and celebrate local heritage. Ensure functionality for both vendors and visitors while maintaining ecological harmony.
